I could see five in one major square.... I decided to take a few minutes and check out the product. The sales people were fairly knowledgeable about CDMA 2000, and said that the product was moving. (What else would they say to a potential customer?) Anyway, he said that the big market was businesses that needed internet access while on the go, or even at their office, depending where they were located, and residents who didn't have much for a dial-up service option in terms of speed and dependability. The strategy seems to make sense, as people are now paying one price for a high-rate internet access and cell phone coverage. The question goes from "Why change?" to: "How about I throw in 30 Megs a month of free data for your computer, where ever you are, for the same rate that you're paying now for just your cell phone." I have to say that cell phones are popular here because the infrastructure sucks. It's gotten out of control, as many people have two phones and I know a businessman who has six... I surfed the web for 15 minutes and was impressed with the speed; my sense was that it was better that I get on my cable modem at my house. Will it be enough to gain a foothold in this already highly saturated market place? Time will tell. One downside is the lack of roaming. With GSM I can switch networks whenever I lose a Romanian signal. Time will tell, and I'll continue to check into outlets as I get a chance.
