In your second sentence you say ,"The Jews did it on their own", but later you admit that arms came from the West (Czechlosovakia). Your because is irrelevent. They bought their arms outside of Israel, before and after the establishment of the "Jewish" State. Speaking of the Communists, Israel marketed itself as the "eyes and ears" on the Soviet Union, having pro-Zionists yet in Russia to do some spying and reporting on activities there, and thus generating arms for the "Jewish" State from the non-Communist West. so in effect, Israel was playing both sides for it'sown needs. "The Jews in Israel created their own state by following a very long range non aggressive plan (started in 1880) to settle the land, and yes, buy a bunch of that land from absent landlords in Syria). " Non-aggressive? Certainly you jest. What were Irgun, Leumi, Shamir and Begin, amongst others doing prior to 1948? The British were losing two soldiers a day to Zionist terrorists and numerous Arabs were killed as well. You call that non-aggressive? "And yes, buy a bunch of land from absentee landlords " You consider 6% a bunch of land? "As for refugees, you may not want to admit it, but there were as many Jewish refugees from Arab countries as they were Arab refugees from "Palestine". " You may not want to admit it, but those Jewish refugees you make reference to from Arab lands, were living in those Arab lands for centuries, and it was only in retaliation to the establishment of the "Jewish" State in Palestine that forced them out of those Arab lands, or as another SI poster believes, they left on their own accord. The swapping of refugees is not a justification for the intial action of foisting a colony on others. The Arab governments may be using the Palestinian refugees as a weapon, but their policy is that they need to return to what is now called Israel, and not given citizenship in their country and thus give Israel an "out" for their misdeeds against them. In other words, they do not wish to set any precedents. The refugee solution for them is to have them located back to their land. Israel's needs are different, they need all the hands they can get, so they welcome their refugees. Israel has marketed itself as a socialist utopia when it was in their interests to do so and to change and align themselves with the non-Communist West when the West paid better. To say that Jews did it on their own is pure fantasy at best and sheep propaganda at worst.
