peter:

"I think the real bomb is that in Q1 units will be flat or even up slightly."

When you have a product with "unrivaled performance" at a very competitive price and you are currently supplying only 1/10th of the market with this product (i.e. the XP), the upside potential for that product remains virtually unlimited, particularly when you can offer the consumer a 1.7 gig XP system at 50% the cost 2 years ago of a 700 MHz Athy system...The "cost" incentive to upgrade from 700 MHz Athy to 1.7 gig XP is enormous and would explain AMD's heightened expectations...

As suggested before, AMD's positioning now in both product lineup and bank strength is much stronger than 2 years ago when Athy was just being launched and AMD was pleading with its bankers for support...Athy has proven itself as evidence by numerous awards for its outstanding architecture, the XP is turning out to be a winfall and with hammer on the horizon, 2002, assuming general economic recovery, may not be wholly unlike 2000 when AMD ran from $18 to $97.50, but $23 by Jan 18 will be just fine...one step at a time...

"Visibility improved into Q1 with units sequentially flat or up slightly (despite the fact that Q1 is normally weaker)"

If true, that would be huge. For one, it would likely mean another dollop of market share increase. It also could mean a break even or even profitable quarter, considering that I don't think Intel will be positioned for a price war in Q102. But still, almost 3 bucks in a single day seems extreme...

WOW! That is stunning if true!

ASP up sharply, flat to higher unit volume in Q1!

What is the deal with that! :)
