Paul...As Tom pointed out this morning, business spending and cap investment is probably going no where. It's the consumer that's kept the economy afloat. And the favorable conditions that have accompanied that as he mentioned, will soon come to an end.

I think this is simply a mini bull rally within a secular bear market, technical in nature, driven by a lot of short covering, seasonal factors, and an accomodative Fed providing a sea of liquidity.

I'm heavily long myself hoping this carries through the first quarter. If you followed me, I got real bullish and long the last week in August, got killed the first 2 weeks in Sept, but leveraged up and have held tight since. But I'm gone as soon as I sense a change in psychology.

FWIW

Paul, thanks for the field report. It's mind boggling to me that every guest on CNBC is reciting almost exactly the same tone about the expected economic recovery. It's like one guy said it first and the rest just followed. Sometimes I wonder, hiding under those expensive suits and impressive titles, do they really think independently?

Regards,

Tom
