Just because we all have eight wires into our homes from the phone pole doesn't mean we all have four lines.

The local telcos should be in such deep shit, as they have a 4x overcapacity on phone lines going to the home!!

(NOT!)

Take a look at the whole sector -- the overbuilding of bandwidth was and is the issue - not only fiber but worst of all in fiber. To drive applications the price of bandwidth will come down and as the demand for the commodity grows there is no evidence that pricing power will somehow return. In the boom days people were so worried about falling behind in building bandwidth that customers were willing to pay a steep premium to have it ASAP -- that was then and this is now. The race is over, the horse is lame and it won't run well next time. Put it out to pasture and find something worth betting on in the future.
