Paul, <<<A PC market already at the threshold of required performance will mean that early adopters of systems powered by the 2.2GHz Pentium 4 will be mainly PC gamers and others riding the performance curve, said Roger Kay, an analyst at IDC in Framingham, Mass.

"Existing PC performance is sufficient to run the software that exists now over the communication links that exist now. It doesn't buy you a lot to grab a faster processor," Kay said.>>>

A two year old computer can barely run Windows XP, get connected to DSL, and do minor photo editing.. Why would any kid getting his first computer, or anyone upgrading a three to four year old computer, not get the fastest performance computer they could afford.

Who is this guy advising? The same goes for Walter Mossberger in the WSJ. I'll bet these guys would not settle for anything less than the best performing computers for themselves and their family.

It reminds me of a joke about an architect working late at night and asking the janitor his opinion about his latest drawing. The janitor tells the architect, "of course, I like it. But I don't think the average person is going to like it".

For those that are financially strapped, and where every dollar counts, why not suggest a used computer?

But why suggest to anyone else to buy a new computer that is always behind the performance curve. It's like people who always eat bread that is stale. After all, stale bread is just as nutritious.

Yes , I know, there are people in other parts of the world who have no alternative but to eating stale bread and use 5 year old computers. But, this is America. Get real.
