Report: Modest uptick in IT spending in 2002 - Jan. 2, 2002

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - After struggling through one of its worst years on record, the global information technology industry is likely to rebound by the second half of this year, with spending increases in all regions, a leading research firm predicted Thursday.

Growth will be the strongest in the Asia-Pacific region, at 10 percent to 12 percent, according to the list of "Top 10" predictions for the global IT industry released by International Data Corp.

Western Europe will follow, with about 6 percent to 7 percent growth over last year. IT spending in the United States is expected to be between 4 percent and 6 percent above last year's level, IDC predicted.
