I didn't say that Mary. When I said we might be afraid to kill a cockroach along the way to bombing groups like El Queda, it meant real cockroaches, not people. Some innocent people may get killed too, but this is war. Still, I'm against any innocent people being killed in a war, but it is unavoidable for that to happen to some unfortunate people who are in the wrong place at the wrong time. For heaven's sake, some Americans have been killed also in Afghanistan, by "friendly fire". I do however agree with that major who said that if we err on the side of the extreme in taking too much precaution in the war against terrorism, and it affects our ability to be the best we can at that, they'll be all over us again like 9/11. Way off topic: So, speaking of racism, EEO and Affirmative Action, a story about my feelings and background. When the company I spent most of my career with got big enough to get under the government's scrutiny for those things, I became an active proponent of making sure we did all we could to adhere to them. That included doing college recruiting at colleges where the minorities that were difficult to find and hire into industry, were present in higher percentages than average national demographics. These included Howard in Washington D.C., which is in a very rough part of that city, and CUNY (Andy Grove's BS alma mater but in an area which has become tough part of NYC, or tougher). College recruiting traveling, and participating on committees that try to ensure that EEO and AA are carried out as much as possible, are not normal activities for engineering managers, but I did a lot of both. I also interviewed and hired over the years many qualified people in the minorities that were under-represented in high tech, regardless of race, etc. This was to try to adhere to the law, and note that it remained important to hire the best people we could find regardless of their race, etc. I am as far from racist as it gets. Please read posts a little more carefully before coming back with things like:Said person is probably a very good person and a solid citizen, but calling unfortunate and innocent human beings, who happen to have been born in the wrong place, should be exterminated like cocheroaches, is very sad.
