Well, what seems to happen is that as the number of important victories shrink, the preservationists, inflated by past glory, become increasingly petty. After all, most of their great work was done from the '50s to the '70s, when they saved and restored a bunch of colonial and early Federal buildings, and made sure that new state construction was compatible, establishing the "look" of downtown area......
