Yes, that's what we asked for last night - a little good news and so far, we have it. If no one "rocks the boat" it should be a good day - only time will tell just how good.

Service Sector on a roll

Services show gains in Dec., ISM says

By Rex Nutting

Activity in the non-manufacturing sector rose in December for the second straight month, according to the monthly survey by the newly renamed Institute for Supply Management. The ISM index rose to 54.2 percent from 51.3 percent in November. Readings over 50 indicate expansion of activity. Economists were looking for a decline in activity to 49.7 percent. New orders rose to 52.6 percent from 48.3 percent while employment remained below 50 at 45.1 percent vs. 44.3 percent in November. The ISM is a diffusion index, which measures the breadth of activity across firms and industries. It is not considered as accurate as the ISM's manufacturing survey.
