Discussion

The Microsoft Windows XP operating system keeps losing time even when it is updated manually.

Solution

Disabling the Internet time synchronization option in Date and Time Properties and running Norton AntiVirus LiveUpdate to update the AntiVirus files can correct most time loss issues within Windows XP.

Disable Internet Time Synchronization

Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.
The Control Panel window appears.
Click the Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options link. (Figure 1)

Click the Date and Time link. (Figure 2)

The Date and Time Properties screen appears.

Correct the time displayed if incorrect.
Click the Internet Time tab. (Figure 3)
Click to uncheck Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server. (Figure 3)
Click OK. (Figure 3)

Run Norton AntiVirus LiveUpdate
