Someone asked me about adding new applications such as projectors or cameras. I wanted to share my response to his PM:

I am less concerned with adding functions so much as making the cell phone interact with other digital appliances such as a camera. I think the cell phone indsutry has tried to orchestrate too many futuristic applications rather than common applications.

I wouldn't use a cell phone as a camera because it would not be able to develop a resolution worthy of digital quality. However, I would like to use my cell phone to digital camera USB port connection to upload my video or pictures to my Yahoo! Sony storage account. I would like to use my cell phone to connect my cell phone to my laptop. I would like to use the cell phone to download my online MP3 files to play music from my Yahoo! Sony archives.

People are going to be swamped with more data than they can possibly imagine in another year or two. Pictures, dvds, cds - digital archiving is going to be the next wave of mania for information management.

The cell phone needs to be your key to pulling information from your computer across the room to retrieve your Yahoo Address book or Yahoo Daily Planner. You need information mobility for universal access to information.

I am not that impressed with attempts to make the cell phone the swiss army knife, equipped with "potential" applications that are inferior to the high quality standards that exist within common devices. Certainly, the cell phone needs to be compatible with digital standards like MP3 & MPEG 4.

Whatever the case, we need to have access to the Net through our universal modems (cell phone, air card, serial cable connectivity kit, USB connections).
