Green out as Vikings coach, settles on buyout
January 4, 2002

MINNEAPOLIS (TICKER) -- The first losing season in Dennis Green's 10-year reign with the Minnesota Vikings apparently spelled his doom.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that Green and the Vikings have reached a buyout agreement after it was learned team owner Red McCombs was prepared to fire his coach after Monday night's season finale against the Baltimore Ravens.

According to the newspaper, assistant Mike Tice will coach the Vikings on Monday night.

After reaching the NFC championship game last season, the Vikings are fourth in the Central Division with a 5-10 record, marking only the second time they failed to reach the playoffs under Green.
