Am just getting greener with envy as I listen to all reporting on their new boxes and XP's

If it makes you feel any better I have a year and a half old box with Win 98SE.

Since I have a cable modem, my provider requires I use OE rather than Outlook for E-mail.

That seems rather odd. Are you sure it doesn't just recomend OE? I have used three different dial up services and I have also had both DSL and a cable modem. Other then the one dial up service that provided no e-mail, all of them would work with any POP compatable mail client. If OE doesn't work well you should be able to use Netscape Messenger, or Eudora, or Pegasus or one of many other clients.

But if I turn on the E mail scanner it locks up my inbox.

I've never tired the e-mail scanner. I use Yahoo mail at home now rather then my ISPs e-mail (mainly because I might change ISPs), they allow you to scan any attachments before downloading. You should also be able to save the attachment rather then open it and scan the save file.

Tim

Bob,

I also use OE5.5 for my cable modem e-mail address. I have configured Outlook to send e-mail but not to receive e-mail yet. I might get around to doing that later.

I don't have or use AVG's e-mail scanner. According to the link that you provided, they suggest that you compress your folders. I believe that this is a good idea.

AVG's e-mail scanner probably simply scans your OE inbox. If you keep a lot of mail in your inbox, this would slow down the scanning process. Moving mail from your inbox to a different folder should help. You can create new folders from the File/Folder/New... menu option.

After you clean out your inbox, compress your folders from the "File/Folder/Compact" or "File/Folder/Compact All Folders" menu option.

Hope this helps.

B.K.
