Yes. Honoring war heroes should be the end of military actions. There are, however, many other avenues of involvement available to us. Economic investment, Educational support, media, cultural exchange, adoption programs etc, etc, etc.

These things are even more difficult than the military campaign. The cultures clash, there is resentment (not gratitude) on both sides. The masses in Afghanistan are more concerned about survival, booty and local mistrust than they are about the ideals of a new government. Yet, unless we want unending repeat performances we have to engage in this type of struggle.
