Michael, how about this data about drilling in ANWR. According to a study released in October by the Union of Concerned Scientists, if the US adopted a clean energy policy which includes making cars more fuel efficient we could by 2020 reduce the use of natural gas by 31 percent and coal by 60 percent and save more oil in 18 years than could ever be removed from ANWR in sixty years.

Another independent study found that if automakers increased fuel efficiency by 3 miles per gallon on average that the US could reduce reliance of foreign oil by 1 million barrels per day and save 25 billion in fuel costs per year and cut CO2 emissions by 140 metric tons per year.

Of course this would require the avg fuel consumption of US vehicles to go from 17.3mpg to an astronomical 20.3mpg. I know this is unacheivable by Adminstration standards so we should just built a useless shield instead.

Seems the administration is solving the wrong problem. The problem is how to use energy efficiently rather than finding more places to use it more quickly. Drilling in the wildlife refuge is about as ludicrous a solution to the energy problem as is nuking San Francisco to stop the spread of AIDS in the US. Just my stupid take.
