You saw where that got us
A great deal about conservation was learned in Carter's term, Reagan pissed it away before it had a large effect. Still look at the milage difference between one of those 1970s cars and a good car of today. (My Toyota Camry gets 40mpg)

Well, actually if you look at the economic situation when Carter was President it was virtually impossible for anyone to succeed. Inflation was rampant runaway interest rates were at 14-15% and everything was really bad. Stagflation had already occurred during Nixon and Ford and what we had was hyper inflation. Again no one could have been successful. Paul Volker Reagan's fed chariman did a lot to tame it in term.

BTW, Carter is a good man and at least he knew when you launched a ballistic missile from a submarine you could not call it back as his opponent Ronald Reagan proclaimed he would do on national TV during a debate. Talk about not having a clue. Reagan was good at one thing, he was a great cheerleader and exuded a positive attitude, which is very important, otherwise he accomplished nothing.
