Leigh,

For Christmas, Kevin got a little memory book for putting pictures in, or drawing pictures and then a page beside it for details about the picture or drawings.

We started the book today. The opening page, Kevin drew a picture of everyone in the family. On the drawing of me, Kevin put a sticker of a camera in my hands. On his picture he put a birthday cake sticker.

We put captions under the Family pictures, they are actually his drawings of everyone in the family.

"Brian in yellow pants."
"Michael in blue pants."
"Emily has white pants."
"Mommy has the camera"
"Kevin has the cake."
"Daddy"

Then I ask Kevin to tell me the story about his picture, so that we could write it down.

Here it is: <exactly as he said it>

One day it was Kevin's Birthday.
Mommy took a picture. I was five. I swinged in a tire and I loved my presents. And I loved my mommy really much. It was a nice sunny day out. There was a rainbow outside after it rained. Next year I am going to be 6.
Be End.

(Notes to Kevin's behavior as the story was being told. When he said that he was 5, he was holding up his hand, showing five fingers. When he said he loved his mommy, he jumped up and put his arms around my neck, and kissed me. When I was writing the last sentence, he said. "You have to make a "6" at the end. Which is why I used numerals in the story instead of the number words. It was so much fun doing this with him. I will be looking forward to doing more of the pages. Tomorrow he wants to do one with using a print of his hand, and he wants to make it a "chicken" (he is confused, he wants to make it a turkey!!!)

These kind of things make my day. And make me thankful for keeping him home from school one more year.

Smiling
Jane
