Can I ask a simple question about this Enron issue?

Was anything done illegally in accepting political contributions from either the Democrats or Republicans? Of course not. Then so what. Why is the President or anyone who accepts funds from an organization which mismanages it's business, held accountable for that mismanagement?

If the nations largest lawyer business group went bankrupt, would we analyze every contribution they made and determine who received what amount of money under the guise of "there must be something wrong here"? Not a chance. The desire to look under every nook-and-cranny in regard to Enron is simply politically motivated. Democrats want to paint an innuendized picture that somehow Bush is to blame for Enron since he came from an energy business background.

Enron management is to blame for Enron. Enron management and (it looks like), Enron Auditors.

It is legal for American businesses to contribute to political campaigns. It is not legal for foreign entities to contribute. Clinton/Gore accepted *foreign* money and Democrats did everything they could to justify it.

Now they want to feign shock, surprise and outrage regarding Enron.

What a bunch of hypocrites...

We do need to reform the financing of elected officials. But we should do it in a way which allows more direct involvement by individual citizens, not by limiting free speech e.g. McCain/Fiengold. The publicity surrounding Enron's political links is yet another way the mainstream media is trying to move us down a dangerous path of politically censored speech. Speech with they, and they alone, wish to control.
