My standard for judging strawberries is picking them fresh in Louisiana, which is sunny and wet in the springtime. Fresh picked strawberries in Virginia (my present home state) are not as good, and shipped from anywhere is not good compared to fresh picked.

Louisiana has very good navel oranges, too, if you like them heavy and sweet. Frost will kill the trees every so often, much more than in Florida or California, so it's not a big industry there, but you can get them from roadside stands and they are the best, IMO.

Just a shameless plug for my former home state. -g-

Best peaches are from a road side stand in Georgia.

Best tomatoes are eaten while standing by my tomato bed.
