Lee, I believe the huge increase in the money supply is the Fed's counter move to a possible post-bubble deflationary environment. They may be counting on the rise in equity markets and consumer spending as one way to help the economy limp away from the bubble without a depression.

I'm not sure all this money is going to chase capital goods, which was behind the bubble, so it may be a relatively decent calculated risk.
