It's actually the Republicans who preach that America is going to Heck in a handbasket and that the government should be dismantled because it is either corrupt or ineffective or both. The only gloom and doom viewed here are the doubts that Bush Jr. has the ability to put the country back on track. That's a short term problem although continued malpractice by the administration may lengthen the recovery period.
