Newport is a global supplier of high precision components, instruments, micropositioning and measurement products and systems to the fiber-optic communications, computer peripherals, semiconductor equipment and scientific research markets. For the nine months ended 9/30/01, net sales rose 43% to $268.5 million. Net loss totaled $6.4 million vs. an income of $26.3 million.
