Agreed. But there's a lot more to the picture than just marketing, in the sense of selling the same product better than others.

Apple has the ability (because it controls the basic box and software) to look out a few years and see what customers want. The "Digital Hub" marketing plan depends on the ability to have Firewire deployed in every Mac, to have the OS integrate transparently, and to not have a zillion different drivers and incompatible pieces of hardware attached.

Dell may have this in the not-too-distant future. As more PC box makers get shaken out (negative comments here about Compaq and HP noted, and Gateway's troubles), Dell will control more and more of the architecture. Maybe shared with Sony.

Whatever, the Apple product line is more than just part of the Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field.

I may buy a few thousand more shares....

Adobe After Effects is available at an estimated street price of US $649 for the Standard version and US $1499 for the Production Bundle version in the United States and Canada. Full upgrades from After Effects 5.0 are US $99 for both the Standard and Production Bundle versions. Users can upgrade from any previous version of After Effects standard version to the Production Bundle version for an estimated street price of US $899 and will also receive Zaxwerks Invigorator Classic.
