The lower earnings are due to significantly warmer than normal Q4 weather affecting its Michigan gas distribution utility and lower gas and electric sales due to the economic slowdown. Co reaffirms 2002 outlook of $2.00-$2.05 (consensus $2.06).

16:43 ET Crompton (CK) 9.10 -0.45: Company warns for Q4 (Dec); sees revenues for the quarter of approximately $600 million versus the current consensus estimate of $642 million; says sales were impacted by continued weak demand and year-end customer inventory adjustments.
