this really isn't funny, unfortunately. these folks listen to Bush and O'Neil and Tom Galvin and they think that everything is pretty much OK and will be back to normal in 6 months. if you think things are going to be fine in six months, then you keep spending and take those "no payments for 90 days" deals at Best Buy 'cause you'll have the cash then. the problem is, they won't, and they'll be in WORSE shape than if somebody had just told them the friggin' truth today.

if consumer expectations are not a self-fullfilling prophesy (and I don't think they are) then the sh*t is really going to hit the fan in the summer. and don't forget that we have mid-term elections coming up in November; Daschale is not going to let the consumer forget how Bush and O'Neil led them astray and the Dems are going to romp. then we'll get more wasteful gov't spending and the tax cut, which for all practical purposes was never implemented, will get taken back, making things even worse.

buy govie zeroes; rates are goin' WAY down.

cheers
