A gap down isn't one of the conditions for an evening star, ajtj99. Have a look at Nison on pages 65-67. An evening star is a top reversal pattern formed by three candlesticks. The first is a tall white candle, the second is a doji star above the first, and the third is a black candlestick that closes within the first white candlestick.
