Thank you for the generous comment, Lazarus. Very glad to see you join into this particular debate.

I have pointed out before that even after two atomic bombings, powerful members of the Japanese military government still vehemently opposed surrender, and orchestrated an assassination attempt upon the Emperor (which very nearly succeeded), because they felt his resolve to fight on was wavering. The militarists' national slogan at the time was the suicidal, "100 million to die with honor."
