But surely the tourism industry (Walt Disney, et al) of Florida, and the fishing / tourism / real estate industries in N.C. and Va. are capitalist entities... just as the oil industry is? Most of the effective opposition to offshore drilling in these continental shelf areas has come from very well funded commercial interests. Remember, in Fla. Jeb Bush was leading the charge against his brother's administration's proposals for offshore drilling in Florida waters.... And why? Simply because he wanted to win re-election, and he certainly got a lot more campaign contributions from real estate and tourism interests than from oil (unlike the Texas experience). Democracy in action.
