Yes, I see your point. I am also an avid upgrader, and I like the idea of being able to replace a processor, or a video card, etc.

At least the G4 towers can be expanded with standard PCI cards. Adding a U160 SCSI card and fast hard drive to my wife's dual G4 533 made a lot of difference.

Often by the time it's time to get a new processer, though, the system bus or other components are too slow or otherwise outmoded.

People generally don't upgrade their machines. I have upgraded three computers in I don't know how many years. The rest get replaced...
