Then by the definition I was using they can't be in denial about anything. They can be wrong. They can also lie, they can say one thing while they know another is true, but they are not decieving themselves so they are not in denial.


Tim, denial has little to do with what's down deep in someone; its not that subtle. Denial is looking at reality and turning into something else.

In the case I was suggesting, we see people die all the time and yet there is very little evidence that people souls exist after they die. Religion helps to throw this reality into denial by injecting the requirement of faith into the mix. If you have faith, you will believe in the afterlife which is in denial of the reality.
