"Time for truth"

Steven -

For a guy so interested in the truth, this fellow makes a lot of misstatements.

He says that "having the large PC system unit hidden under the desk isn't a big deal for me, especially since it gives me easy access to multiple USB, serial, and 1394 ports, something the new iMac doesn't offer."

In point of fact, the new iMac offers a larger than usual complement of USB ports, as well as 1394 ports, and it makes these available right on the desktop, rather than under the desk. It is true, though, that it has no serial ports. These days, serial ports are of limited utility anyway.

He complains that Apple doesn't allow him to have two drives so he can copy a CD without first copying it to his hard drive. Yet by using the 1394 or USB ports he claims are missing, he can have six or seven drives if he wants. Furthermore, there are still Apple computers that are perfectly capable of having two drives in a box sitting under the desk.

It is true that many flat-panel systems have not done well. They've always been quite a bit more expensive. The new iMacs sit pretty much within the same range as the current iMacs, albeit in the top half of that range. Of course, they now offer a SuperDrive and a fast G3, neither of which was previously available in an iMac, so the top price is just a bit higher.

He also claims that there are "reportedly" warehouses full of Cubes. I don't believe that's true, and he offers no actual evidence to support the claim.

Basically, this guy is just pissed off that he didn't get the scoop. I don't care. News stories aren't supposed to be about the reporter who writes them.
