Cambou will report to Hector Ruiz, AMD president and chief operating officer. He will succeed Walid Maghribi, president of the Memory Group, who has resigned from AMD effective March 1. "Bertrand Cambou is a veteran of the information technology sector," said Ruiz. "Bertrand's broad experience as a chief executive as well as a chief technical officer makes him equally comfortable leading technology and P&L operations. He is a results-oriented executive, and I am confident he will continue the winning traditions of the AMD Memory Group." Prior to joining AMD, Cambou, 46, served as managing director of Paris-based Ingenico, a market leader in the development and sale of terminals for secure e-commerce transactions. Cambou has also served as chief operating officer of Gemplus, an industry leader in smartcard solutions, and as senior vice president and chief technical officer of Motorola's semiconductor business sector. Cambou holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from Paris XI University. The AMD Memory Group is responsible for AMD memory products, principally flash memory devices. AMD is the world's second-largest supplier of flash memory devices. "Hector and I want to thank Walid Maghribi for his enormous contributions to AMD during his 16 years with the company," said W.J. Sanders III, AMD chairman and chief executive officer. "Walid built AMD's flash memory business from the ground up to more than $1.5 billion in revenues last year. Walid put in place a very effective organization that we are confident will enable AMD to maintain its leadership in the fiercely competitive flash memory sector of the semiconductor industry." AMD is a global supplier of integrated circuits for the personal and networked computer and communications markets with manufacturing facilities in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Asia.
