I must be talking to the wrong IT folks, 'cause my contacts are much more dire about 2002 spending. Yes, security will garner upgrades, but after that, they don't see many available bucks. Several have told me that their CFOs have asked them to specify spending cuts on a year-over-year basis. Either way, it sure doesn't look like a return to 1999-type spending, which is what current stock prices suggest. Time will tell.
