Well, you make the usual points about the Chinese people being unable to afford cell phones, but there are now around 140 million users, and around 50 million bought handsets last year.

My reading of the Reuters article was that the quoted ASP's were the "full retail" list prices, but I'm not sure of that for a fact. Maybe the two carriers subsidize the heck out the handsets, but if they are, that has no impact on royalties or chipset prices. As usual, time will tell.

MM,

Okay. The evangelical side of me finally took hold. I decided to pull together some recent pictures (in fact, there are all from today's peopledaily.com) to give you a glimpse of what modern China is like.

These images were all taken on New Year's eve, just a few days ago, showing how people in different parts of China celebrated the holidays.

I hope you will notice that this country has come a long way - the buildings in the background aren't exactly like the caves in Tora Bora and the people look like they are able to afford a couple of cell phones each, should they wish to do so.

PS: do let yourself get educated, MM, and it might even be fun.
