>>I keep hearing people say Apple is so great because it can make so much money by just gaining a tiny additional share of the market. Thing is, the longer-term trend is going to zero!<<

Steven -

One can look at the market share decline chart and extrapolate that it will go to zero by just drawing a line, but that doesn't mean one can predict Apple's future. That's the big problem with charts. One never gets to see the part that matters the most; the next period of time. (Of course I know you are smart enough to know that.)

There are a lot of reasons to believe that Apple can increase market share, although you and anyone else are certainly permitted to disagree. That's what makes the stock market work.

>>I think he meant that having those ports on the back of the computer was the problem (many new PC cases have them on the front for easy access). Otherwise, I would agree he was full of "it".<<

That could have been what he meant, but it isn't what he said. Nor was that his only departure from the observable facts. At minimum, he wasn't being very clear or careful in writing that article. But then, his feelings were hurt, so it's understandable.

Feel free to be as generous to that nitwit as you want to be. I'll just continue to think he's full of "it", as you say. Actually, I think he's just very full of himself.

>>the number of people who want to mount two CD-RW drives in their system is, I would guess, is rather small. Why he chose to complain about that (rather than, say, not being able to install an additional internal HD--yeah, I could buy an external HD w/firewire, but why would I want to pay twice as much?).<<

I can't add a second internal hard drive or CD-ROM drive to my notebook computer, either but that doesn't mean there's something wrong with the design. It just means that the design goals of the machine did not include that kind of expandability. Again, that didn't stop the original iMac from selling more than six million units (and counting, since the CRT iMacs will be staying in the product lineup), and it won't seriously hinder sales of this one, either.
