Excellent point.

With Desert Storm, we seem to have developed a mindset that war should be bloodless, at least to America.

It never has been, and it never will be. This country's freedom was born in bloodshed, its freedoms have been maintained by bloodshed, but if we become unwilling to keep paying the price of freedom in blood, we will lose all those freedoms our ancestors fought to win for us.

We have long gotten past the concept, if ever did exist, that war is glorious. But I hope we never get past the realization that from time to time it is essential if we are to continue to live our free lives.

That's why, while I am concerned for my son, serving in the military and slated for possible duty in the Middle East later this year, I am also enormously proud of him. He knows what it's about far better than some of the pontificators on this thread who want to enjoy their freedoms, but don't want to pay the bill for them.

Interesting article.

The fact remains that America's war aims may well be compromised by America's reluctance to "take casualties"

I followed your link to find out more detail about what he meant by that. He seems to think we should have had a massive number of soldiers on the ground. Of course the logistics of this would have been enormously difficult. The time it would have taken to get the soldiers there and set up their logistical support might have made it even easier of Osama and company to escape.
