Our economy is like the guy who drove off a cliff. A guru on a lower crag shouted out, "How are you doing?" and the guy yelled back, "I'm doing fine, so far."

We have too much production, too much consumption. Our entities are subject to brutal competition (competition is good, but it can be lethal). We have too many retail outlets pumping out stuff we basically don't need, too many cell phone producers and providers, too much bandwidth.

At a certain point we need to pull back and balance the accounts. Governments can run deficits for a long while if the underlying economy is healthy, but individuals can't.

Here's a thermometer, let's take the consumer's temperature right now:
