Tench- But only a 'Droid would cheer AMD's alleged "success" in making Intel earn less that it could have as a 100% monopoly.

I like to think of myself as an enlightened droid...

I never said that AMD did great in '01. If I was the teacher, I would give a grade of B- to AMD for 2001. Intel gets an F.

"But only a 'Droid would cheer AMD's alleged "success" in making Intel earn less"

I think most here recognize that AMD is very fortunate to have minimized the damage caused from the price war and weak PC/Flash markets during 2001. Both AMD and Intel suffered from the price war. We 'Droids' are encouraged that despite Intel's efforts to inflict fatal damage to AMD (in 1999 and 2001), it would appear that it just postponed the profitable AMD machine. If AMD did indeed gain market share in the process, as well as 'mind share' (more importantly), then the future looks brighter for AMD and its shareholders. Hopefully during 2002, both Intel and AMD can make meaningful profits.

Have to admit though, that followers of underdogs generally will cheer when the top dog stumbles. Its human nature. How many anti-NY Yankee fans are there? You are right, that AMD shareholders had much more to cheer about in 2000 and 1Q 2001.
