Of course, the market went down only because evil, unprincipled short-sellers were spreading unfounded rumors. What kind of analysis of the market is that? What drivel. What about the fertilizer spread so thickly during the morning ramp job?

They couldn't even identify which unfounded rumor they were going to blame the selloff on at first -- Japan's economic problems or the Iraq story. But of course it had to be rumors to bring down such a strong market, ascending into the stratosphere on nothing but a lot of hot air.

And the technicals were completely ignored. The fact that the Transports were down all day -- completely ignored. Valuations -- ignored. Cautionary comments about the outlook -- ignored. Irrational exuberance -- ignored. They're not doing their job, I suppose, if they're not helping the institutions push the market up.

Monty just sent me this:

Just turned the TV on and saw where cnbs is going to have a program tonight, "Is the Hype Back on Wall Street"? (As if they didn't already know.)
