I am a short only investor. In my view, there are far fewer players, and greater opportunities on the short side.
I agree that there is money to be made on both sides of the market, but I prefer to focus on what works for me... Shorting overpriced stocks and holding those positions for as long as it takes for gravity to set in. I realize that your strategy,(and most of the others on this thread)is to trade on catalysts (for example earnings or the IMCL regulatory problems), but I don't think I have your talent in that regard. I try to keep my trading to a minimum. (usually just selling calls on stocks I intend to short, or sellling covered puts on my short positions for some income during the hold period).
As always, though, I appreciate the ideas and insight from you and the others on this thread.
