Whatever... I never said that Texas beaches weren't nice... I just said that economic interests in Florida opposed coastal shelf drilling there (and in North Carolina, Virginia, New Jersey, etc.)

In Florida the local politicians were near unanimous in opposition... from Jeb Bush on down.

On the Florida beaches issue, the media here in Florida had the masses pumped up about the unsightly oil wells being seen from the hotels and condominiums, when, in fact, the closest they would be to the shore was around 70 miles. A building would have to be about 6000 feet high (5 times higher than the WTC?) to be able to see the top of the rig.
