Where are you getting your information that Intel is outspending AMD on a per CPU basis

From Dan's own "Fabrication Facility" ???

Re: Where are you getting your information that Intel is outspending AMD on a per CPU basis

I divide how much they have to spend to maintain their FAB capability each year by how many chips they produce. The capex costs of maintaining competitive FABs is clearly stated in their 10Q and the number of chips produced is pretty well known.

Intel also produces some chipsets, mostly at older FABs using older equipment. VIA has about half the chipset market and its gross revenue for all products runs about $250 million per year. Intel produces some embedded chips and quite a few networking chips, but those are mostly produced with equipment and at FABs that are no longer useful for producing CPUs. So most of the FAB capex is for CPUs. Intel spends 9 to 10 times what AMD does on maintaining its FAB capacity while producing about 3 times as many CPUs.
