Qualcomm To Invest $200M In India's Reliance Commun

BOMBAY -- U.S.-based Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) said Thursday it is committed to investing
$200 million for a minority stake in Reliance Communications Ltd., a Reliance group company.

Reliance Communications has licenses for providing basic telephone services in 17 out of 21
telecommunications zones in India, covering about 95% of India's population. The company will
provide basic telephone, wireless services with limited mobility and national long-distance services in
India.

Reliance Communications also proposes to enter into international long-distance telephony once the
sector is open to private companies.

The company proposes to use Qualcomm's code divison multiple access technology, Qualcomm
said in its statement.

Qualcomm said the investment in Reliance Communications is part of a strategic alliance to support
the introduction of next generation CDMA wireless technology.
