It focuses on an unpleasant aspect of his personality that was almost universally acknowledged. I remember reading the Rolling Stone interivew of Clinton, in 1992. Grieder, the resident liberal, predictably fawned over him. O'Rourke, the resident libertarian/conservative, was uncharacteristically charitable in his assessment ("I guess he won't be a disaster"). But Hunter Thompson had a very bad reaction to Clinton, found him shifty, evasive, manipulative, and vaguely menacing. I thought it was an interesting reaction, considering Thompson swoon over Carter, whom he had declared a "New Kennedy", and it dovetailed with my impressions........
