Microsoft has, IMO, excellent (open proprietary) vision about the convergence of the home and corporate desktop with wireless and mobile wireless. I'm sure that CE.NET will be highly compatible with .NET Server (now in Beta) and XP home and Pro. and all those products will evolve with an eye on convergence. The .NET Server family is being designed to support Microsoft BizTalk Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, and Microsoft SQL Server and Windows XP is considered by Microsoft to be the "optimal client for Windows 2000 and Windows .NET Server". The CE.NET development environment (and emulator) is XP PRO (or 2000). A knockoff on XP initially was Bluetooth support which is being developed and CE.NET supports Bluetooth. As you know, I'm pretty enamored of Bluetooth and the implications for mobile data users. One of the question marks about CE is naturally Java support, since there is no question mobile applications will increasingly be developed under mobile Java so that is an interesting area to watch. CE.NET security support includes Kerberos Security Protocol, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and Smart Card Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) so it pretty well parallels developing security and authentication for the enterprise server environment and corporate desktop client. WIN2000 is highly smart card enabled (for security and authentication) and I'm assuming that so is XP although I haven't drilled down on that yet (I'm just enjoying XP as a user).
