It is a great addition to Nokia's product line and I think it will be marketed aggressively by the carriers migrating from IS-136 to GSM.

This should help protect their marketshare in the Americas. They have much higher share in TDMA than they do in GSM 900/1800. It is nice to see them ahead of the pack. I really dont think the lack of an analog function will hurt them very much.

EDIT...just realized what you are trying to say. The Nokia handset has AMPS but does not have GPRS. Unless GPRS takes off in the US (very doubtful), this wont be an issue until '03.

I'm assuming you made it to the Nokia Sugar Bowl?

Forget who won. How was New Orleans.

I'm trying to forget....it has not been a great two weeks for Illini sports. They got killed in the Sugar Bowl and the supposed Final-Four bound basketball team looks like it would get beat by a good women's team.

New Orleans was absolutely great. A lot of food, a lot of drink, and very little sleep makes for a great time <g>.

Nokia has begun large-volume shipments of equipment that both AT&T Wireless and Cingular Wireless need to build "3G" networks. These new networks are supposed to offer improved cell phone service, a Nokia spokeswoman said Wednesday.

AT&T Wireless will begin offering 3G services this year. Cingular Wireless will finish building a 3G network in early 2004, a spokesman said.
