mind share.

It's not like no one knows about Macs. I think most consumers do, at least the consumers I talk to. Like I just had a talk with a friend who has lost her email address book due to a virus. Her friend reinstalled her system, everything's gone except some stuff on a back up CD. She knows about Macs but spent way bigger bucks than she had to on a Windows system for email and Word processing.

Got another friend who wants to do video. He's seen me working on both my PC and my Macs. He knows Macs are better. His girlfriend uses an old Mac. He looks at the price tags of PCs and the power of the processors and is strongly drawn to them. Actually the new high end iMac addresses that problem.

Just putting them out there or making them look nice isn't going to do it. People get scared that Apple is to much of a niche product and the technology is falling behind.

The won't get those users until they have a product so compelling that people switch in droves. iMacs are somewhat compelling, they make a lot of sense to some people, and OSX will be compelling if they get it to run faster and fix the interface gee gaws. OSX is so close, so close. But they also need to do something about the processor gap. I thought they might just make all the G4 multi processor computers this time. That would work if they are still haveing speed probems.
