How am I supposed to look at these c:/ bizarre named things and decide what should start and what shouldn't?

Copy the list and post it here. The Cow is well known at knowing if you need those programs at startup.

Actually have a surge with battery on it already.

Run a test on it to make sure it is functioning correctly. I have to leave for a little while but will be back later tonight. If you get a chance to post all the items in the startup menu we can narrow down what you need.
