LOL! From 1970 to 2001, there was 1 true surplus. We were only at war a few of those years, but Rep. & Dem.'s had Presidents & Congresses scattered throughout. Obviously, neither party can do it, but that won't stop those of one faith from blaming the other! Reagan was Prez for 8 years, had the biggest deficits in history. Clinton reigned over the recovery & the bubble, but managed just 1 surplus. Bush Sr. was 0-for-4. It's a sickness...

They ran deficits when the unemployment was at this level in 1995. If they keep ratcheting up spending, they will not be able to milk Social Security surpluses even at the 4.0 to 4.5 percent jobless rates.
